JLPT – N3/ NAT- TEST 3Q

The JLPT N3 and NAT-TEST 3Q represent intermediate levels of Japanese proficiency, designed for those who have moved beyond basic conversation and wish to handle more complex communication in daily life, study, and work. These tests are a bridge between everyday conversation and more formal or technical language.

JLPT N3 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test - N3 Level)

The JLPT N3 tests your ability to understand and use Japanese in a wide range of daily and social situations. At this level, you need to master about 650 kanji, including all kanji from the N4 level, and around 4,000 vocabulary words, incorporating those from N5 and N4 levels. Passing the JLPT N3 means you can:

  • Understand and participate in conversations spoken at a near-natural pace in everyday, social, and workplace contexts.
  • Comprehend written texts that contain more advanced vocabulary and kanji, including short stories, essays, and newspaper articles.
  • Follow the main points of lectures, news broadcasts, and other forms of extended speech, understanding the context and opinions expressed.
  • Express your opinions and ideas in more detailed conversations, making it easier to navigate social and work-related situations in Japan.

This level is crucial for those who want to engage more deeply in Japanese society, either for work, study, or everyday life.

NAT-TEST 3Q (Nihongo Achievement Test - Level 3Q)

The NAT-TEST 3Q is equivalent to the JLPT N3 and measures the same level of proficiency. You will be expected to know around 650 kanji and 4,000 vocabulary words, similar to the JLPT N3 requirements. The NAT-TEST 3Q evaluates:

  • Grammar and Vocabulary: Mastery of intermediate-level grammar and expressions, allowing for more nuanced communication in a variety of situations.
  • Reading Comprehension: Ability to read and understand moderately difficult texts, including articles, letters, and opinion pieces that incorporate intermediate kanji and vocabulary.
  • Listening Comprehension: You’ll be able to follow natural-speed conversations and understand dialogues in everyday life, workplace settings, and short narratives.

Both the JLPT N3 and NAT-TEST 3Q are essential for those looking to work or study in Japan, as they provide evidence of a strong grasp of the language and the ability to manage more complex situations in Japanese-speaking environments.
